This is the first in a series of blogs based on the 16 principles of Aurum Leadership and the LBX program. At Aurum we are dedicated to bringing authenticity, compassion and courage into leadership. The LBX program brings personal and leadership development together, teaching leaders to be human and humans to be leaders.
Aurum Principle #2: My unhealthy ways of being are adaptations I made to protect myself and get the love I needed. Ultimately, these adaptations don't achieve those things, but rather, separate me from myself.
Our adaptations have many different names: The Internal Chatter, The Monkey Mind, The Inner Board of Directors. These adaptations are all ways we use to cope with life. These adaptations are buffers we use to keep us ‘safe’.
In reality, these committees of fractured parts keep us in struggle and making a mess of our lives. We take these ‘safety habits’ and live our lives as if every current situation is going to be just like a past, familiar experience. We rely on these adapted behaviors to get us through another situation, hopefully unscathed.
No guilt here. No shame here. These behaviors and strategies are our blind spots. We can’t see them. We are blind to them until we awaken to the truth of who we are, and can clearly see who we’ve been is a collection of behaviors, thoughts, and judgements that we have used to protect ourselves and get the love and acceptance we need.
If we choose to remain in this padded, defended state, it will keep us from connecting with the truth of who we are. The resilient, worthy, connected, open, whole, curious, calm, solid person we were born to be. It will keep us operating from the same disconnected, self-absorbed self that leads from a place of fear, rather than from a place of personal empowerment and mindfulness.
At LBX: Leadership Breakthrough Training we make space to see and feel the impact we’re having on others and our own life when we operate from this old, habitual and often distorted way of being.
This awareness opens the door to a new way of showing up.
At LBX we get real-time experience operating from our resilient, whole, resourced self. We experience getting dramatically better results and the powerful impact we have when we show up with all of who we are.
When we know who we are and are connected to the depth of wisdom, clarity and passion within us, it becomes effortless to connect with and inspire greatness in others while moving towards an inspired vision.
